Andrew Morrison - August 2020 Andy's two-hour August show maintains the onslaught on fabulous new music that's materialised during 2020, such as excellent tracks by Victories At Sea, Kelly Lee Owens, Rival Consoles, By Land, Bonemachine, Bdrmm, Epic45, Fake Empire, Monophona and The Company Of Men. Andy's discovered his likely album of the year in the form of Swedish band Skuldpadda's 'Commitment'. There's not a song on the LP that isn't essential, and Andy will be playing you all of them over his next few shows, starting with two of them in August - to include 'Summer In The City', a mere "bonus track" that's his current contender for song of the year. You'll also hear a pick from the latest batch of live songs released as part of the Arab Strap Archive on July's Bandcamp Friday, plus an 808 State remix of Mansun from back in 1997, that Andy never knew existed until recently, features as Andy's Old Chestnut.

Gareth Jones - August 2020 Gareth's August show brings two hours of new music plus a few forgotten classics. In the 1st hour, 'Secret Songs of the Sixties' serves up two obscure Japanese tracks circa 1967, taken from a new 6-CD box set called 'Far East! Far Out!' on the Rubble label. Also from Japan, we have a new track by Mecha Elvis, formerly of Dandlion Radio Festive 50 favourites Astro-B. Meanwhile there are two brand new recordings by Bubblegum Lemonade and Richard Hughes which come straight off the mixing desk. In fact, they're so new that no actual release dates have even been planned yet! There's also some Balkan surf guitar courtesy of The Baghdaddies plus Matt Tiller salutes the UK's first black footballer; Jack Leslie. To celebrate the release of his new album 'Employee of the Month' (released August 28th), singer and musician Stephen Evens will be the guest curator of 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue' in the 2nd hour. Stephen will be choosing and introducing 4 songs of his choice, including his devotion to Cardiacs. Somewhat spookily, Stephen recorded his section for Gareth's show just the day before Tim Smith sadly passed away. There's also a competition this month, with a chance for you to win two brand new CDs. Gareth is giving away a signed copy of the debut album by Indie-Folk duo O'Reilly & Vincent, and a copy of the new Stephen Evens album.

Mark Cunliffe - August 2020 I try not to be too serious too often but if you could allow me to be here that would be fab. Wiley has come out with some horrific tweets recently and, as you know if you've listened to my show over the years, I've played a lot of his work in that time. My August show was pre-recorded at a time before he had put out his tweets. There is a track by Deft which features a bit of Wiley on it and my July show had a track off his latest album. Neither would have appeared had the tweets been tweeted before the shows were recorded. The actual show is of an ilk you might expect from a typical one from me but it seems a bit weird going into it all after talking about that.

Mark Whitby - August 2020 Robbed of a Green Man festival this year, the August show is a little different from normal but the absence of any festivities does at least allow us to focus on the extraordinary number of great new releases around at the moment. That would almost certainly include something from the new rOZZ album if we didn't have something better: an excellent debut session. There's also more from the incredible albums from Groupe RTD and Kill The Giants and we look forward with great anticipation to forthcoming releases from Bill Callahan and Idles. Our featured album this month is another from the excellent Thomas Imposter label; there's also a lockdown-themed new single from the Neville Staple Band, a Kottarashky remix of the Dzambo Agusevi Orchestra, a cracking new single from Serbia's Gazorpazorp and a couple of tracks from the one-off lockdown compilation from Spain's EXP Records, plus of course our regular Peel Back.. feature and something from Porridge Radio just as a reminder of what we're missing (sniff) in the absence of their Green Man appearance.

Pete Jackson - August 2020 Two hours of the usual unusual globe-trotting tunes - as well as a preponderance of Australian music (from Anteloper, Midlife and Bananagun) you'll also find Polish drum and bass, Lithuanian surf pop and Azerbaijani psych guitar - and a few from the past (also viewed as a foreign country), including some Frank Zappa and a double dose of classic blues. If this is all too exciting sounding, there's a lengthy chilled-out sequence in the middle of the show that has the unlikely inclusion of a Black Sabbath cover from Moon Duo.

Sean Hocking - August 2020 As usual, it is four hours from me this month. It's great to see the righteous BLM rage on the streets already turning up as fully formed songs on releases that to Ring of Fire are as powerful as hearing the likes of the Clash, Pistols et al for the first time. The new album from Sault is up there with Blue Lines, What's Going On and Exodus, it hasn't come off the digital decks since we first heard it about six weeks ago. Also out of the US, Pink Siifu, Koreatown Oddity and the Legless Crabs are telling it like it is, whilst in the UK the new one from Benefits pulls no punches and a new EP from Massive Attack shows they've lost none of their bite. We've also got new releases from Manchester's Creature Comfort, the IDLES, Australia's Peter Bibby who we haven't heard from in at least a couple of years and the wonderfully named Eik Nervous & the Beta Blockers who cover that great unreleased Banshees track, Make Up To Break Up. We are, indeed, very spoilt this month. Oldies that sound like newbies from the like of Ry Cooder, DJ Topcat and Canadian rockabilly rebel Bloodshot Bill who has been a recent discovery for us. Best cover of the month - Aussies GTRRC who cover ELO's Don't Bring Me Down in the style of a Lo-Fi Silicon Teens, very tasty indeed. Lots lots more in a crammed 4 hours. Enjoy

Thomas Blatchford - August 2020 Hello it's August and Thomas is broadcasting to you as always from Melbourne, where it's now illegal to not wear a mask outside - but don't we all wear masks, in a way? Yes, because otherwise we'd get a fine. Chocolateman has something to say about this, and Lucker give a nod of sorts to ‘covo' (as it's now called in our house) too. If you spotted the theme of last month's show, it crops up again in new singles from Dobby, Left at London and the new Rider Shafique collaboration with The Bug. And yet, what else? Well, a slather of sounds from new albums by Concrete Lawn, Rebel Yell, Naretha Williams, need I go on? Ok I will: DEHD, Vanessa Worm, and Screaming Toenail. There's also a dance that features on the UNESCO World Heritage List in the category of local medical practices - yep! - and a six second song about bounding mines. Let's pump!
