Gareth Main - August 2011 Sensitive ears might want to avoid the opening minutes of Gareth's first show for Dandelion Radio, but if you can cope with copious overuse of the word 'motherfucker', you might just enjoy the excerpt from Trunk Records' Sex Hungry House Wives track. Less filthy highlights from this month's show include another track from Trunk's digital label, a spellbinding slice of psychedelia from Edibles, France's answer to Eek-a-Mouse in Jahtari's Pupajim, the UK's current golden boy of electronic music Seams, Holland's Machinefabriek, and an ode to the herb through James Brown's 'I Feel Good' overdubbed by the brilliant Solo Banton. The latest from Ghost Box, Singapore's Kitchen records and a couple of self-released gems round up this debut hour.

Marcelle - August 2011 'Compiled by the compilers' This month's show echoes the sound of a great compilation, with music from amongst others France, Austria, Germany, Ghana, Jamaica, South America and, eh, Great Britain. Marcelle gets help with compiling this 'compilation' from no other than The Bug who has compiled an amazing double vinyl album of dancehall riddims. And Marcelle gets so excited about the Wax Across The Water feature (Marcelle and fellow Dandelion DJ Paul Ackroyd send each other vinyl to be played in their respective shows), that she spontaneously starts to mix Sandwell District and French poet Anne-James Chaton and UK/Dutch guitarist Andy Moor - the result a fine example of DJ Marcelle in her profession as club DJ. There's a great comeback of Warrior Queen and - one month late - Marcelle manages to play some tracks from the legendary debut CD from The Truth About Frank. Dub wizard Scientist compiles and tackles a compilation of dubstep artists and another fine compilation is the tenth instalment in the Godspunk series from Blackpool, resulting in Nil By Nose almost dominating the show. A compilation show full of great compilation tracks, what more does one want in August 2011?

Mark Cunliffe - August 2011 It's August, the six week summer holiday is in full swing. It's time to pack your unbreathable cagoule and semi automatic wind breakers before heading off to Skeggy for sand, sea and syringes! What has been cooked up for you on my show then? Don't ask Durrty Goodz, he doesn't know and Blue Daisy's got completely the wrong idea for a radio station ... what's he thinking of??!! Yoof (Sonz Of Mecha) keep annoying taxi drivers and Trrbo along with Cat People has souped up Stirling. Kozzie has been to hospital and nicked off with a loaded urinal and then poured the contents all over Ruth Bellamy's bedding....nasty man ... There is a really stunning session mix from Jerneo ... So, if you're fed up with Camel Racing on the prom, tune in ...

Metal Postcard Influences - August 2011 The creation of Metal Postcard records took many years and many influences before it became reality as a label. Influences come in many forms. Indie record labels such as Fast, Small Wonder, Factory, Postcard and early Creation records, as well as Peel's wide and varied playlists over the years and not forgetting the influence of writers such as Burroughs, Ginsberg, Tom Wolfe, Huxley and JG Ballard who were and still are a major influence on the type of music and releases I try to put out on the label. In the final analysis though, it's songs heard in many places that are the core influence for the label. Of course this show could quite easily have been 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 and even 24 hours worth of songs. Here's the first hour .. only 23 shows to go. As time goes by The Clash feature more and more on Metal Postcard's personal playlist, in this hour we feature Complete Control, heard again over the radio, whilst driving through Brooklyn's Red Hook area a few years back and in the heat of the summer with the fire hydrants firing water in all directions and the window down a song never sounded so perfect. No Metal Postcard day would be without Siouxsie in this show we return to the Scream yet again to hear the glorious Mirage. Another band that's had a great influence on the label are Perth's Triffids the only band that has made me feel that it really didn't matter that I was only 3 when the Velvet Underground ruled their very small roost. Also on the show proto tech-house deja vu from 1990 and also the songs from Dylan & Young that ensured a life long love affair. And talking about love affairs .. Leadbelly's "In The Pines" has enthralled for many years, in this show the finest version ? By Charlie Feathers.

Paul Ackroyd - August 2011 With every summer comes a splurge of really long tracks. Happens every year. This time round there's a bit of sumptuous long neo-classical from Myrmyr, long krautrock meanderings from Spectrum Spools new kid Temporal Marauder, and some long ambient drone prettiness from Evan Caminiti, both solo, and as one half of Barn Owl ... In long techno this month, we're treated to another chapter in the Sandwell District series, which see Rrose step up to that there metaphorical plate, and, oh-my-word, it might be my favourite yet from this elusive crew, so both sides of that made it into the show. In long brutal glitchy noise, William Bennet, masquerading as Cut Hands, serves up a disgusting slice of the most obnoxiously ill sludge hop you're ever likely to hear, which will leave you grinning from ear-to-ear, whist in excruciatingly long holocaust hop this month, Maurizio Bianchi's 1981 classic Symphony For A Genocide gets a long-awaited reissue ... There's also quite a long prayer track to commemorate Dimi Mint Abba's passing, a bit of long collage from Anworth Kirk, some long noisy improv-step from Vladislav Delay Quartet, long synthy space rock goodness from The Haxan Cloak, and the longest of them all, a beautiful 26-minute long ambient piece from Daniel Thomas Freeman. Also I feed you some incorrect information about a very long Trevor Wishart track - I tell you it's all made out of a single clink of wine glasses - it was actually whisky glasses, plus there are some other noises as the track progresses, such as sounds of birdsong, a junkyard gamelan, the ocean and the human voice. But mostly it's all about the clink ... Then there's Wax Across The Water, where Marcelle provides me with yet another fine record full of things I can't pronounce. It's a crackin' album of old folky bits from Southern Italy, mostly round the 70s. Some lush tracks on there. Worth avoiding this one if you've an allergy to long tracks, I'd suggest ...

Rocker - August 2011 This month's three hour show features the first ever recordings by The Fireworks in session, plus new tracks from Billy Bragg; Allo Darlin'; Comet Gain; Paul Hawkins & The Awkward Silences; The Wind-Up Birds; Veronica Falls; Pocketbooks; Vacuum Spasm Babies; The Choo Choo Trains; The Nightingales; and Kids On A Crime Spree; There's electronica from Dibby Dougherty & David Young; and Nhar. Guy J remixes Infusion, while Pinch remixes Photek. There are bonus LP tracks from both Shonen Knife and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. This month's Peel's Big 45 features a US guitar band from 1967, and this month's Educating Elizabeth record is a Soul classic from the same year. As well as little known acts, here's a little known fact: In 2008, nearly 20 years after the Hillsborough disaster, Alexei Sayle unsuccessfully tried to give away free copies of Rupert Murdoch's so-called newspaper The Sun in a Liverpool newsagents, for a television documentary. The newsagent ended up burning the paper on the pavement outside his shop.

Sean Hocking - August 2011 For the August Hong Kong Garden show, we've had to migrate south for this show as there's some very interesting things happening in both Melbourne & Perth at the moment. From Melbourne we've been hearing a new electronic sound over the past year by a number of disparate artists and acts. On thing seems to hold it all together and that's the almost slow motion feel of the music. Imagine Moroder on a course of valium! I've seen a couple of references to the movement being called "slo mo" although I imagine some of the musicians involved won't to be too excited to linked in with a certain sound. Hong Kong Garden features tracks by Bad Thoughts and Worng - both members of Melbourne's current electronic godfathers, The Emergency. Also Fatti Frances, Tantrums, Crumbs, Pissy Paw and the amazing No Zu who have managed to draw on the spirit of The Pop Group, Cabaret Voltaire, Pig Bag and Australia's Laughing Clowns. Quite incredible music and live shows (search YouTube) that look to be completely hypnotic. The spirit of these acts remind me of Melbourne's glorious late 70's and early 80's where bands as disparate as Severed Heads, Boys Next Door & TISM would tread the boards on the same weekend . Melbourne is having a renaissance and electronic music is the current spearhead. Over in Perth, home of the Scientists, Triffids & Panics amongst others, you can find hidden in the suburbs two unusually interesting singer songwriters who manage to write beautifully created lo-fi songs that can have only come from a city that's almost falling off the edge of a continent. Both Louis Inglis and Swoop Swoop in their own way, raise the ghosts of McComb, Drake and Barrett. We also feature some Cambodian Dub, Hardcore Punk from Bejing and Hong Kong's elctronic duo Volt In Music and a lot more.
