| Leo Gilbert - April 2022 A personal message from Leo this month: It would be wrong of me in my show to ignore the appalling atrocities being inflicted on the people of Ukraine and I must pay tribute to their heroism as they resist the Russian army. In a gesture of solidarity with Ukrainians everywhere, I begin my show with the Ukrainian national anthem, and during the show play a number of songs which protest against war and fascism. I also end the show with a beautiful piece of Ukrainian folk music. Besides this, Leo has another forty-plus songs from all genres and none, with over half of the artists never having been played by Leo before, most songs being released in the past couple of months. | Mark Whitby - April 2022 The annual compilation released by Lithuania's Cold Tear is always something to be looked forward to, so no surprise that it's our featured compilation this month. There are also tracks from new and forthcoming releases from the likes of Aldous Harding, Wet Leg, Woog Riots and Los Bitchos, plus, inevitably, something from the Half Man Half Biscuit album. Check out, also, something from the new album by Ukraine's 6th Crowd. For some reason, an unusually large number of great releases are coming out of France at the moment. No surprise that the amazing Kythibong label is driving some of that and we play something else from their marvellous Vimala Pons album, but there's plenty more: we feature tracks from Lisa Pung and Wanton Witch EPs and also the Paris Music Corp album. | Sean Hocking - April 2022 Without saying why, as we all know why, a lot of my song choices to kick off the show all have an impending sense of dread. We start with London outfit ROC off their just pre-pandemic release "Celestial Bile" not only because of the feel one gets from their song, Silver Highway but also because all the videos for Celestial Bile were made by Ukrainian artist Oleg Rooz who is currently still in Kyiv and defending the city. Watch all his video at the ROC YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/user/ROCgroup We follow that up with Jean Jaques Burnel off his debut solo The Euroman Cometh with "Euromess" and it made sense to segue that into the Stranglers "5 minutes" as that's all we may have if Putin takes it where none of us want it to go. In the same vein we also have Pussy Riot with their blast from the past that warned us of what the future would be. New songs from The Chats currently on their sold out worldwide show (remember you heard The Chats first on Ring of Fire many many moons ago), Woog Riots, The Bordellos, Bakar & Ian Noe amongst others. One band we are particularly excited about are Montreal's Tha Retail Simps. Their DNA pulls in the likes of Capt Beefheart, The Fall & The Monks along with others but like every great band they sound only like themselves. You'll be hearing a lot more from them on Ring of Fire in 2022. New Metal Postcard releases from Portland's Super Hit and The Conspiracy, who have a new album out later in the year.
