Gareth Jones

On my show this month:
You'd be mad as a hare to miss Gareth's March show. Saluting "International Women's Day" on March 8th, there are female artists galore, ranging from the political angst of Lambrini Girls to the catchy pop of Girls Aloud.
This month's 'Secret Songs from the Sixties' brings three cuts from the new CD box set "Do The Strum! Joe Meek's Girl Groups And Pop Chanteuses (1960 - 1966)".
Then the 2nd hour's guest host is Welsh artist Angharad who'll be taking part in regular feature 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue' to coincide with the release of her new album 'Motherland' out March 1st on Libertino Records.

Biography:
In my teens I was an avid listener of Peel plus Mark & Lard and always wished I could play obscure songs at the wrong speed and utter some nonsense into a microphone. This sort of happened in my twenties when I accidentally stumbled into DJing at Moles Club in Bath for their regular Thursday nights called 'Purr'. From 2000 - 2009 I had the opportunity to play whatever I liked inbetween the live bands and witnessed early gigs from the likes of Art Brut, The Futurheads, Gossip, The Long Blondes, Los Campesinos and Wild Beasts, all playing in this tiny venue with me constantly pushing my way through the drum kit to get myself back into the DJ booth! I later became a promoter there myself and booked mostly bands who disappeared off the face of the earth, but I did manage to book a then unknown Metronomy for £60! When I eventually threw in the promoter towel at Moles club, I ended on a high by booking the late great Frank Sidebottom. Yes, I did get to see him without his head on! But he wouldn't let the support bands see him!!
I very occasionally continue to promote gigs in Bristol under the name 'Go Ape', with shows including The Lovely Eggs, Piney Gir, The Thyme Machine, Tunabunny, Sam Coomes (Quasi) and co-promoting Damnably shows with Shonen Knife and Otoboke Beaver. I'm also a keen collector of Indie/Alternative Christmas records, and in recent years I've helped to compile the annual Indie compilation CD 'A Very Cherry Christmas' for small DIY label Cherryade Records (the label who originally released the first two Lovely Eggs albums).
Wanting to get into radio but not really sure how to go about it, a few years ago I started making an occasional podcast. It's imaginatively called 'Radio Radio' (yes, after the Elvis Costello song) and I've interviewed bands/artists including Allo Darlin, Bis, Helen Love, Kid Carpet, Momus, Paul Guided Missile's Dream Themes band, The Spook School, They Might Be Giants and more. You can find them at podomatic.com/podcasts/radioradiopodcast
Outside of music, I've sometimes been known to review new crisp flavours on my facebook page and I collect toy robots (although the shelves are now getting a bit too full for many more).
